In 1977, Hoyt Axton covered it on his album Snowblind Friend followed by Emmylou Harris for her album, Luxury Liner. When recorded by Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson it became a
number one country hit.
It was chosen as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time
by Members of the Western Writers of America.
